Jonathan Swift interest. 1712-14 The Examiners for the year 1711, to which is prefix'd, a Letter to the Examiner. London: printed for John Morphew. Three volumes. Volume I containing Nos. 1-50, volume II 1-58, volume III 1-38. Contemporary full calf, gilt titles and decorations to the spines, gilt borders, the gilding a little worn (labels possibly touched up), volume three with loss to the head piece, volume I with sympathetic restoration to the joints, corners a little bumped and lightly rubbed, some minor shelfwear to boards. Armorial bookplate to the front pastedown. Ink date inscription and ownership inscription to the front blank and title page. Hinges a touch delicate to the second two volumes. One leaf of publisher's advertisements to the rear of each volume. Some toning and offsetting throughout, volume I with some staining to the lower corner of prelims up to p. 100. Rare in three volumes, with only two sets traceable in UK libraries; these in attractive contemporary bindings. Swift edited some of the papers held in the first volume; the production channeled a Tory view of politics under the reign of Queen Anne, and ceased publication following her death. 32mo.
