Who we are
Antique Chapters is a small independent shop at antiquechapters.com for books, maps and paper worth keeping: antiquarian and illustrated books, art and photography books, antique maps, and historical memorabilia. Items are chosen individually rather than bought in bulk. The shop is operated by Varando LTD.
What we sell
- Books: antiquarian books from the 1600s onwards, illustrated and limited editions, and signed copies, in Latin, Italian, French, English and other languages.
- Art & Photography Books: monographs, photobooks and art books, some signed or in special editions.
- Maps: antique maps and town views by cartographers such as Sebastian Münster and Braun & Hogenberg, listed by the region they show.
- Historical Memorabilia: flags, military items, signed photographs, manuscripts and other historical objects.
Every item is an individual, one-off piece. Stock changes regularly as pieces sell and new ones are added, so what you see today may not still be here next week.
Where our pieces come from
Our books, maps and memorabilia come from private collections and specialist sources across Europe and beyond. Each item is described as accurately as we can manage: author or maker, title, date, language, and condition. With older books and maps, read the condition notes for foxing, toning, repairs and binding wear, which are normal with age, and check whether a map is described as hand-coloured.
How buying from Antique Chapters works
- Free shipping. Shipping is free on every order, with no delivery charge added at checkout.
- A ship-by date on every product. Each product page shows the date the item ships by, and the same date appears in your basket, at checkout and in your order confirmation. Once your order is on its way, we email you a tracking number. Full details are on our shipping policy page.
- Secure payment. You pay by card at checkout through Stripe. Prices are shown in euros.
- 14-day returns. If you are a consumer in the EU, EEA or UK, you can change your mind and return most orders within 14 days of delivery, no reason needed. See our returns policy for how it works.

Frequently asked
What do the dates in a book title mean?
The date after the title is the year of publication of that copy. A range such as "1989-1989" is a single year written as a range, and "1900-1999" means the exact year is not known.
Are the maps originals?
Antique maps here are described with their cartographer and date. Read each listing for details of the printing and colouring, and ask us if you want more information about a particular map before you buy.
Does shipping cost extra?
No. Shipping is free on every order at Antique Chapters, and each product page shows the date the item ships by.
