Contemporary full blind stamped calf, gilt titles to the spine, raised bands and joints lightly rubbed, corners bruised and with a touch of rubbing; a few scratches and indentations to the boards, a touch of loss to the tail of the front joint. All edges red, marbled endpapers. Ex Bristol Polytechnic stamps to the verso of the front endpaper. Front joint a little loose. An abrasion from a label being removed to the front endpaper. Lavishly illustrated with monochrome engraved borders by Mary Byfield after Durer, Holbein et al. throughout. Described by Ruari McLean as 'a triumph of printing as well as of illustration and typography'. 8vo.
