MILBANKE, RALPH (EARL OF LOVELACE) - ‘ASTARTE’ printed at The Chiswick Press, London, 1905, cloth half bound with blue paper boards, Perran Wood bookplate, inscribed in pen to front flyleaf 'W. M. Rossetti from S. C. Cockerell 1906', with a note by Cockerell detailing the volume's limited circulation; together with two handwritten letters from S. C. Cockerell to 'Mr Rossetti' on paper headed '29 Friars Stile Road, Richmond Hill, Surrey' dated Jan and Feb 1906; and a handwritten note on graph paper from Helen Rossetti Angeli to J. G. Murray, headed '27 Thurlow Road, N.W.3' dated 20-VI-50, requesting to purchase the volume for £3 "if in good condition" (4) Sir Sydney Carlyle Cockerell (1867-1962) was a museum curator and collector, Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, 1908-1937. William Michael Rossetti (1828-1919) was a writer and critic and the brother of artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Helen Maria Maddox Rossetti Angeli (1879-1969) was a writer, translator and biographer, second daughter of William Michael Rossetti. Since her father had previously owned the volume, we do not know why it was not still in her family's possession and why she had to buy it back from Murray.
