The spine ends lightly soiled, some minor cockling. Light discolouration to the board edges, with some staining to the rear board of volume II. Top edge gilt. Inscribed by the author to front blank 'This is the first complete set of this work passed out of the binder's hands' and dated Dec 6th 1902. Ownership bookplate of Charles Wright Macara to the signed blank. Hinges a little strained, with some wear to the paper and adhesive at the front hinge of second volume. Illustrated with two folding maps in colour before the title page of volume I, and monochrome and sepia plates throughout besides. A superior example. 4to.
