Drake, Nathan. 1805-1810 Essays, Biographical, Critical, and Historical, illustrative of the Tatler, Spectator, and Guardian. London: C. Whittingham for John Sharpe. Five volumes. Lovely scarlet full straight grain morocco, gilt decorative spines, titles, bands, decorative borders and dentelles, faintly rubbed to the raised bands and spine ends. Extremities a little bumped resulting in rubbing, edges with occasional rubbing. No losses to the morocco of the boards, which remain smart bar just the odd mark. Each volume with bookplate to front pastedown. Pencil ownership inscription to front endpapers / blanks. Some rubbing to endpapers. Volume I with three engraved plates including frontispiece; volume II with frontispiece; volume III with thirteen; volume IV with frontispiece; and volume V with frontispiece. Internally, bindings remain tight, and leaves bright and clean bar just the odd spot; plates are a touch spotted, sometimes resulting in offsetting. A truly lovely early 19th century set. 8vo. (5vol) Publisher: C. Whittingham Publication Date: 1805-1810 Binding: Hardcover
