Bindings. 1902 Matthew Arnold’s Notebooks. London: Smith, Elder and Co. First edition. In a full crushed morocco Arts and Crafts binding in the manner of Cobden-Sanderson and Douglas Cockerell; highly decorative gilt Tudor rose design to the boards, gilt titles to the spine. The leather a little rubbed, particularly to the raised bands and joints, corners a smidge rubbed similarly; a few patches of discolouration and wear to the boards. All edges gilt.
